Photography in PongolaRob Wooding & Associates produces mapping and geographical information for the agricultural, engineering, mining and telecommunication industries. The guiding principle of the firm is to apply leading edge technology in an economic and practical manner that is suited to the African context. 

 

 Cessna 337 Camera PlatformThe active principals are Rob Wooding(a registered professional photogrammetric surveyor) and his son, Hal Wooding(an agricultural engineer). Eight full time personnel are employed, most of whom have tertiary level qualifications at either University or Technikon level. An extensive network of part time workers are used for large projects.

 

GPS Survey in TanzaniaThe firm has it's own support resources in terms of GPS equipment, four wheel drive vehicles, SGI and PC workstations, a variety of technical software licenses, large format plotters, photogrammetric scanners, precision digital and mapping cameras, photo laboratory and aircraft. In 2001 the firm purchased the first photogrammetric Applanix IMU in Africa in order to eliminate the need for ground control surveys on it's remote mapping projects. Office premises and hangerage are fully owned and a substantial archive of digital orthophoto imagery is maintained for resale.


An active research programme is conducted, concentrating on new methods of acquiring and exploiting digital aerial imagery and geographical information. Assistance is also given to various universities and nature conservation organizations for a variety of projects.
